History
Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia as a kid our Dad was always taking Bill, Bob and I fishing in small private lakes. We moved to Anniston, AL when I was 12 yrs old, and at that time we had more of an opportunity to squirrel hunt at farms near by. As a teenager, I rarely remember even seeing deer when hunting and fishing. It was not until I started school at Auburn that I really got 'bit' by the deer hunting bug. My brother Bill and I would hunt a wildlife mgt area near Auburn. Those were the days we would drive after school, pitch a tent, and hunt all day on Saturday. Baker tree stands were all we had. It was a miracle that we did not kill ourselves by falling out of trees. I can remember seeing deer and really getting excited that a wild animal that large can live in the woods of Alabama. I was 19 yrs old when I shot my first deer on a dog drive in Tallasee, Alabama. I can remember the dogs barking, and coming my way pushing a deer. Soon a spike was close to me, and I shot it with an old Winchester 12 gauge using buck shot.
I look back on those 'hard hunts' and cold nights camping out, and really appreciate how we hunt today. My favorite memory with a Scentite blind is hunting in one of the rigid blinds in Camden, AL in November 1999. We had a field that we could never hunt due to wind direction. The deer always seemed to smell us when we used our portable blinds. Our 1st Scentite blind was placed on this field, and our worries of deer smelling us went away. I video taped 7 bucks in the pouring down rain out of that blind, and to this day I still call that day the "rain bucks day". I didn't shoot a deer, but did not have to. I had the memory on tape, and will be one I can play and replay countless times to remember how special that day was.
My hunts in Wilcox County, AL are now filled with great memories of hunting with my brother Bill, and two boys, Justin 21 yrs old and Luke 17 yrs old. They both share my love of the outdoors, and hunting together draws us closer as father and sons. We hunt our green fields out of Scentite blinds, and have enjoyed hours of sitting together talking and hunting. The comfort of a Scentite blind has enabled us to stay in the hunt longer, and enjoy watching and video taping not only deer, but turkeys as well.
